Trillium quilt block


Cut the pieces

  • Background (blue): Cut 2 - 3” x 5 1/2".
  • Background (blue): Cut 1 - 2” x 2 1/2".
  • Background (blue): Cut 8 - 2 1/2” x 2 1/2"; mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of 6 of these.
  • Background (blue): Cut 2 - 2 1/2” x 4 1/2".
  • Background (blue): Cut 1 - 2” x 12 1/2".
  • Background (blue): Cut 2 - 1 1/2” x 1 1/2"; mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of each.
  • Green: Cut 3 - 2 1/2” x 2 1/2".
  • White: Cut 2 - 1 1/2” x 1 1/2"; mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of each.
  • White: Cut 1 - 1 1/2” x 2 1/2".
  • White: Cut 1 - 4 1/2” x 4 1/2".
  • Off white: Cut 2 - 4 1/2” x 5 1/2".
  • Beige: Cut 2 - 1 7/8” x 1 7/8”; cut in half diagonally to make 4 triangles.
  • Yellow: Cut 1 - 1 15/16” x 1 15/16”.

Piecing directions

  1. Left and right petals
    Place a 2 1/2" marked Background square right sides together with the Off white rectangle as illustrated. Stitch on the marked line. Trim seam and press. Repeat with another 2 1/2" marked Background square. In the remaining 2 corners, do the same thing with a 1 1/2" marked Background square and a 1 1/2" marked White square. Repeat for the remaining Off white rectangle as illustrated.

  2. Flower center
    Stitch a Beige triangle to opposite sides of the Yellow square. Repeat with the remaining 2 sides. Add the White rectangle to one end. Stitch together a Green square with the Background 2” x 2 1/2" rectangle; stitch to the center as illustrated.

  3. Bottom petal
    Place a 2 1/2" marked Background square right sides together with the White 4 1/2” square as illustrated. Stitch on the marked line. Trim seam and press. Repeat with another 2 1/2" marked Background square.

  4. Sides
    Stitch together a Green and a Background 2 1/2” square; stitch this to the Background 2 1/2” x 4 1/2" rectangle. Repeat to make 2 sides and stitch these to the bottom petal.

  5. Finishing
    Stitch together Trillium as illustrated.
