Yellow Jessamine quilt block


Cut the pieces

  • Light Yellow: Cut 12 - 2” x 2"; mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of 8 of these.
  • Light Yellow: Cut 2 - 2” x 3 1/2”.
  • Light Yellow: Cut 2 - 1 1/2” x 6 1/2”.
  • Light Yellow: Cut 1 - 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”.
  • Light Yellow: Cut 1 - 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”.
  • Medium Yellow: Cut 2 - 2 1/2” x 3 1/2”.
  • Medium Yellow: Cut 2 - 2” x 3 1/2”.
  • Dark Yellow: Cut 2 - 2” x 3 1/2”.
  • Medium Green: Cut 4 - 2” x 2; mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of 8 of these.
  • Medium Green: Cut 2 - 2” x 3 1/2”.
  • Medium Green: Cut 4 - 2” x 4”.
  • Medium Green: Cut 4 - 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”; mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of each.
  • Medium Green: Cut 1 - 1 1/2” x 5 1/2”.
  • Medium Green: Cut 1 - 1 1/2” x 6 1/2”.
  • Medium Green: Cut 2 - 2 1/2” x 3 1/2”.
  • Dark Green: Cut 4 - 2” x 2.
  • Dark Green: Cut 1 - 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”.

Piecing directions

  1. Blossom corners
    Place a marked Light Yellow square right sides together with a Dark Yellow rectangle. Stitch on the marked line. Trim the corner, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat for the next corner. Make 2 of these.

    Place a marked Medium Green 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” square right sides together with a Light Yellow 1 1/2” x 6 1/2”. Stitch on the marked line. Trim the corner, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat for the opposite corner. Make 2 of these.

    Place a marked Light Yellow square right sides together with a Medium Green 2” x 4”. Stitch on the marked line. Trim the corner, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat but with the opposite angle line, as illustrated. Make 2 of each of these.

    Using all the sewn units plus Light Yellow 2” x 2" squares and 2” x 3 1/2” rectangle and Medium Yellow 2 1/2” x 3 1/2”, assemble blossom corners as illustrated.

  2. Dark upper corner
    Place a marked Medium Green square right sides together with a Medium Yellow rectangle. Stitch on the marked line. Trim the corner, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat for the next corner. Make 2 of these.

    Using these two sewn units plus Dark Green 2” x 2" squares and 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” square and Medium Green 2” x 3 1/2” rectangle, assemble dark upper corner as a nine patch.

  3. Light lower corner
    Stitch together as a four patch both remaining yellow squares with the Medium Green 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” rectangles. Stitch on a Medium Green 1 1/2” x 5 1/2” rectangle; stitch on the remaining rectangle.

  4. Finishing
    Stitch together all units as a four patch.
